Rebuilding life after separation: A PennyPlan success story
Sometimes your life takes a different direction from the way you thought it would go. One minute you’re planning for the future as a family, the next you’re trying to put the pieces back together and make your own way. The journey isn’t easy, and finances can end up spiralling out of control.
That was the case for one of our recent clients who, as a mum of three and pregnant with number four, was struggling to adjust after a difficult separation. She came to PennyPlan hoping for a way to get things back on track and create more financial stability for herself and her children.
The situation
After separating from her partner, the client was finding it difficult to keep everything together. As a mother of three disabled children, with another baby on the way, her priority was always her family. But the stress of her financial situation was becoming overwhelming.
Debt repayments had become unaffordable. She found herself constantly worrying about how she was going to cope. The pressure began affecting her daily life both mentally and physically.
She dreaded the sound of a knock at the door and would often avoid answering phone calls, in case they were from creditors. The anxiety of not being able to meet her repayments left her feeling isolated and exhausted.
When she reached out to PennyPlan, she needed a solution that could help her get her finances back on track.
Our approach
From the very first conversation, we aimed to help take some of the stress off her shoulders. With an in-depth understanding of her situation and the key priorities, we established a solution that was manageable and fit around her family’s needs.
The arrangement allowed us to:
- Turn multiple debt repayments into one affordable monthly payment
- Reduce her monthly outgoings by nearly £300 per month
- Take over communication with her creditors, removing the worry of calls, letters and unexpected visits
- Provide a dedicated point of contact who guided her through every stage of the process
- Give her the space and confidence to focus on her children and rebuild her future
Ongoing support
If you’re experiencing financial challenges, it’s important to know that you’re not alone. Having the right support can make the difference in not just getting out of debt, but staying out of it in the long-term.
We continued to support this client throughout her financial journey, communicating with creditors and answering any questions to ensure she can make her repayments confidently.
The outcome
The client is now on a repayment plan that works for her and her circumstances, so she can focus on her kids without the worry of growing debt. She’s no longer worried about phone calls or who’s knocking on the door, and she feels happier in her overall wellbeing.
When the arrangement is successfully completed, more than £20,000 of unsecured debt will be written off.
She can now look forward to a stable future with her kids and create a stronger foundation of financial security.
